AMITY LIVE AT CANDY BAR

This Monday hosted the second live performance of the year at the LGBT student night BOUNCE.
I was really excited to book not only a friend of mine but an incredibly talented young lady.
AMITY has a beautiful folky, light indie/alternative feel to her her music and her use of various instruments makes her talent shine through.

She is a one women band using a loop pedal, harmonica plus other contraptions that give her that eclectic sound that it so important nowadays with the high competition in the music industry.

The venue Candy Bar is a lovely intimate venue and the audience buzzed of her performance which sounded fantastic with the acoustics of the area. People had travelled far and wide to see her and the loyalty that was so clearly there was really exciting for not only her but for the general atmosphere.

AMITY is gigging around the country from Brighton to Birmingham so you have no excuse to catch one of her shows. Check her out... you will not regret it.

Love abit of live music!

So tomorrow is the weekly night at Candy Bar, 'Bounce'.
It is a LGBT indie/alternative night- its fantastic to be able to play a variety of music on the scene and because I started in the indie scene its even more exciting.
Like any night it takes time to get your name known and for people to come and check it out, from the start of Bounce it has always been a strong opinion by myself and the other DJ and promoters that live acts would bring a extra special individuality to the night but also really serve the purpose of a indie/alternative night.
Our first live music night is coming to Candy Bar tomorrow which I'm SO excited about.
We have the fantastic B.O.Y. These guys have been gigging all over the place and I saw them briefly at GO.GO festival, I was working during their set so I didn't really get a chance to hear them but I've heard some really good things so I'm really looking forward to seeing them do their thing tomorrow.
I will post up a review with my verdict on Tuesday.

Candy Bar promo!

I was very flattered to be asked to take part in the photo shoot for the new Candy Bar flyer. It was felt that all the DJ's should be used which I personally think was a wonderful idea. The motto of Candy Bar has always been ' Run by girls for girls' and so what better way then use the ladies that bring you the amazing music to Candy Bar for their promotional material.
The wonderful Laura Cunliffe took the pictures, I'm sure she'll never be working with me again as I was a slight pain in the arse, I'm not the most confident person when it comes to having my picture taken and I kept making slightly humorous comparisons to every single image that was taken.
Here is the finished product though and I must say I'm pretty happy with it.
It's in in G3 and Diva which is slightly scary and on flyers everywhere!

BOUNCE!

We had the last Bounce of 2012 the Monday just gone and I just wanted to thank everyone that has supported it.
Its taken a while to get off the ground but we are definitely on the way for it being a well known night. Last weeks night was amazing and the comments we got were very flattering and it was great to see the night getting such great feedback.
The press have also been really supportive and we got a great page spread in G3 magazine last month as well as a large advert on one of the pages.

Roll on 2012!

Heres what they had to say :)

BOUNCE

Two weeks ago Candy Bar launched their first LGBT student night 'Bounce'.
I was so excited and flattered to be asked to be part of this because not only have I been a student for three years I also know my indie and alternative music pretty well and was so excited to be given the opportunity to bring a new and exciting sound to The Candy Bar.

The launch went wonderfully and people said such kind and positive things. Equipped not only with great music but the lovely Sandra Davenport had gathered a fantastic bunch of goody bags for everyone and the place was covered in lots of sweeties and goodies.
Tomorrow brings the third night which I am really excited for... the second event still had a fantastic group of people who are all really positive and supportive but after the launch night the second one is always going to be a slight anti climax.
The word about Bounce is spreading... its not going to happen over night but once people see what the night is about and see that we are here to stay. We want to have a night that caters for a taste of music usually held in the East London 'scene' and bring this to Soho.
Candy Bar have specifically mentioned that this night is LGBT. Candy Bar is for lesbians but all the GBT are more then welcome and personally I really hope we can see a great mixture of people coming down and enjoying themselves :)

New Week.... New exciting stuff!

A whole week has passed and I will be DJ-ing at The Candy Bar again tonight! 9pm till late!

Last week was great but I had to use my laptop...in 6 years i have NEVER used a laptop to DJ so I was really worried!
It certainly saves the stress I have every week searching for songs in my case of hundreds of discs! I didn't like it though,  I felt I was cheating and felt people were judging me! (yes I suffer from paranoia haha!)
The main issue I had was I was situated at the end of the bar so I had various customers asking me for a drink... change etc- I started to lose my patience and didn't want to use the highly pretentious line 'Do you not know who I am?' so my wonderful best friend/roadie/groupie/number one fan Carrie fashioned a wonderfully CLEAR name tag artistically written in eye liner so this problem would not happen! ***

Once the name tag was clearly situated on my chest I had a fantastic night and there was a great group of people.
I'm really psyched to get downstairs and get on the decks tonight with my head phones as I certainly missed them last week!

***(I want to clarify I didn't actually wear the 'I am the DJ' badge....)

Candy Bar 2/7/11

So Saturday was London Pride where I was chuffed to be asked to play at The Candy Bar.
As usual I get a bit nervous and doubtful of myself..... nearly 7 years DJ-ing you think this would fade!

There was a great crowd of people in the basement where id be DJ-ing and once I got myself settled i was away.
Anyone that know me will be aware that I'm not very technically minded and this was proved when I had to stick cables in ... and set up a mic for Laura from Vinyl Black Stilettos! As per expected I failed and the microphone was not set up, once it was all sorted and her performance started I stood there wanting to cry thinking 'wow you've well and truly buggered this up'.

Due to this I really had to pull the stops out, after her performance I opened with a big dance song and received a massive cheer! I got onto a roll and was so thankful that every song I played received an amazing reception. People were dancing, cheering and the atmosphere was electric!

After my slot people were so wonderful and this guy even wanted a picture with me....this was very bizarre and I get very awkward in these situations but never the less I was incredibly flattered.

I will be playing at The Candy Bar tonight and next Monday too so lets hope that this becomes a regular thing as its a great club and gets such a great crowd of girls.
